REVIEW – MAYBELLINE VOLUME EXPRESS FALSIES MASCARA (WATERPROOF)

When it comes to affordable mascaras, Maybelline rules the drugstore market and has a bunch of different formulas to choose from. Today I will be reviewing the Maybelline Volume’ Express Falsies Waterproof Mascara which is my go-to product for the days when I want super long lashes.

This mascara comes in a cute purple and blue packaging with a brush that has staggered bristles. This unique arrangement of bristles, as opposed to bristles running uniformly around the brush, is claimed to provide extra lift, length, and volume to the lashes by getting to the root of each and every lash. The formula is also supposed to provide a falsie-like finish with dramatic length and volume without any clumps.

The product lives up to most of its claims. The brush does cover the lashes evenly from the roots to the tips and the formula is totally clump-free. A single coat provides dramatic length but does not add much volume to the lashes. Therefore, if you want a more natural look for your lashes with just some extra length then a single coat of this mascara will do the job for you.

If you want extra volume too then you can go ahead with a second coat. Two coats of this mascara have a thickening effect on the lashes without making them look unnatural or clumpy. You will get longer and thicker lashes that will make it seem like you have false lashes on.

Although this mascara claims to have a slight curling effect on the lashes, I haven’t noticed much of a curl after using the product. If you have extremely straight lashes then I will recommend using an eyelash curler after you have applied the mascara, when it has dried almost completely. Be very gentle and careful with the curler though and make sure not to tug at your lashes.

I have only used the waterproof version of the product although it comes in a washable version as well. The waterproof formula lasts all day long on my lashes but I sometimes notice a tiny amount of crumbling after 8-10 hours of wear. Removing this mascara is a bit difficult because it is waterproof but I feel that coconut oil works the best at breaking down the product.

Personally, I do not use this mascara on a regular basis because removing the waterproof formula is a bit rough on the lashes. However, it is my favorite mascara for the days when I need my lashes to make a statement. It is perfect for a special occasion when you don’t want to bother with false lashes and glue.

A 7.5 ml tube of this mascara is priced at INR 500, which is quite affordable for the effect it has on the lashes. This mascara works as well as some of the high-end mascaras in the market but for a fraction of their price. Therefore, I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lengthening mascara that also makes the lashes look thicker without any clumps.
